Cooking Workshops – 2011- current

In the 2011-12 school year, GOT Farms students participated in several cooking workshops led by our volunteer culinary artist, Ms. Suzanne Dunham.  These cooking workshops continued for the 2012-13 school year, and during this year we were very fortunate to get a grant from the Key Bank Foundation in partnership the “5210 Let’s Go! Oxford County” organization to improve our cooking facilities.  We chose to help the Bethel Alliance Church to improve their kitchen and they agreed to allow us to use the facility whenever we wanted to have a cooking workshop.  Grant funds helped to purchase a new refrigerator and freezer, a new closet for cooking club storage was constructed, and improvements to the flooring were made to make more cooking space available.  In addition, we purchased several cooking tools and a new spice rack.

For the 2013-14 school year, the students and instructors of GOT Farms launched a culinary workshop series entitled Bridging the Generations, intended to expand our cooking workshops to target and intergenerational audience. About once per month, students and community members of all ages meet to share, cook, eat and give together.

For each cooking workshop, students help to plan the recipes, they invite participants of all ages, and they work together to prepare the meal with the supervision and guidance of GOT Farms volunteers. They usually finish each workshop by sitting down together and enjoying some of the results of their labor. In addition, GOT Farms cooking workshops also help with preparing some food for the Bethel Alliance Church community suppers, held on the last Wednesday of every month.  We are always looking for more cooking ideas and culinary arts volunteers.  Please contact us if you are interested in helping with these efforts.  Below are some photos and updates from past cooking workshops:
